Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Applied Statistics, Applied Statistics Certificate, Data Analysis Certificate

Format: Online

Program Description:

The online Master of Applied Statistics (M.A.S.) features the same innovative content, taught by the same CSU faculty and carrying the same esteemed reputation, as our on-campus students receive. The MAS emphasizes the practical application of statistics, focusing on the methods and computational aspects. This curriculum enables you to start working immediately upon graduation as a practicing statistician in industry, government, or academia.

Prerequisites include calculus through multivariable integration, linear algebra, and one undergraduate-level statistics course.

You will begin the MAS degree with two online math and computing skills analysis courses (completed in the three weeks prior to the start of the fall semester). The Math Skills for Statistical Analysis (MSSA) course provides an intensive review of the necessary methods in calculus and linear algebra to ensure that all students are prepared and have consistent skill sets. The Computing Skills for Statistical Analysis (CSSA) course introduces you to SAS and R software applications for use throughout the program.

Students begin the MAS in July and can complete the program in under two years (going part–time) or in 11 months (going full-time). The program concludes with a six-week, online capstone consulting class in May and June, during which you will learn communication skills and complete a consulting project that allows you to apply the methods learned during the year.
