Program Description:

Radical fluctuations in earth system dynamics, large-scale environmental changes, hazards (both natural and those caused by human actions)—these are the problems that the master of science in Hazards, Global and Environmental Change (HGEC) aims to address. Chapman’s HGEC graduate program provides the solid foundation to observe and understand Earth’s myriad systems and their interactions, and teaches how to lessen the societal impact of environmental hazards through preventative measures and appropriate human response. Graduates will be equipped to lead the way in this exciting and ever-changing field.

Eligibility Requirements:

Admission to the program may be achieved by the completion of the following requirements:
Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. This must be documented by an official copy of a transcript showing the baccalaureate degree.
Have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.000 or better in the last 60 graded semester credits (or 90 quarter credits) earned prior to the baccalaureate degree.
Submit three letters of recommendation from individuals who are directly knowledgeable of the applicant's professional and academic competence (at least one from an academic source).
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last five years with a minimum score of 500 both on the verbal and quantitative section, 4.5 on the analytical writing section. A score at or above the 60th percentile on any one of the Graduate Subject Tests is required.

Applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree outside of the United States are required to achieve an acceptable score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), minimum of 550 (paper-based), or 80 (internet-based).
