Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine

Program Description:

The Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute and Case Western Reserve University offer a unique collaborative graduate training opportunity, the Molecular Medicine Ph.D. Program. This partnership program is designed to integrate medical knowledge into graduate research training and train scientists in translational research - the application of basic or applied research to the understanding, prevention and treatment of human diseases. This program is funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute "Med Into Grad" initiative and meets the National Institutes of Health Roadmap directive for "Bench to Bedside" discovery in the 21st century. Graduates are well prepared to collaborate with physicians to advance human health initiatives through clinically relevant research. The first year of studies is devoted to lab rotations and a core curriculum in human physiology, biochemistry, metabolism and pharmacology, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, infection and immunity, and biostatistics and epidemiology taught on the Cleveland Clinic campus. In the following years, the student selects a Thesis/Research Advisor and Clinical Mentor at the Cleveland Clinic or Case Western Reserve University to complete a thesis research project and obtain a Ph.D. that includes at least one clinically focused specific aim. All students will receive a stipend and free tuition throughout their graduate training in addition to a laptop computer and textbooks for the core curriculum.
