Program Description:
Although one of the oldest training programs in the country, the School of Drama has clearly moved into the 21srt C in training, philosphy and attitude. Aside from being one of the most technology-oriented and computer-connected universities in the country, we have programs that reflect a new world. We began our Interantional Director's Residency program a few years ago and have hosted members from a number of theatres who have worked with our students over several weeks. As well, we have developed our own "fringe" festival, called Playground, a student-project festival in which a week is devoted to student-proposed, student-developed and student-produced collaborative work. We also do collaborative work with the Schools of Music, Art, Robotics and Engineering. We have a y-year-old facility that houses a 450-seat proscenium theatre (transformable to thrust), a 150-seat black box and a television studio that is sometimes used as a third performance space. All of our faculty work professionally and yet we are very hands-on in our training, in order to help each individual discover the artist that he or she can be.
