Program Description:

The Online Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program is innovative and fully online, designed to prepare classroom teachers for New York State certification as a TESOL specialist (grades K-12).

Students may choose the Master's Degree or the Advanced Certificate. Both programs are ideal for working teachers looking to maintain full-time employment and continue their education. Candidates completing either program can also qualify for the Bilingual Education Extension with additional New York State (NYS) testing.

There exists a tremendous need for skilled teachers in the areas of Bilingual Education and TESOL. In the Buffalo area alone, there are 3,862 English Language Learners (ELLs). Increasing the number of trained and certified teachers in the field will help serve ELL students better and will ease the burden on existing teachers. Acquiring this in-demand skill set helps teachers attain and retain quality positions in a competitive job market.

Eligibility Requirements:

Evidence of teaching certification required if seeking NYS certification.

Completion of 12 credit hours of college/university level credit in a foreign language.
