Program Information

Degree Offered

Assistive Technology Engineering (ATE)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

What do wheelchairs, hearing aids, and text-to-speech software have in common? They are all examples of assistive technology (AT), and most of us have known people who rely upon these or similar devices. It is, therefore, not surprising that there is a great demand for trained practitioners involved in assistive and recuperative technologies, especially at the master’s-degree level.

CSU Northridge seeks to help meet this demand by offering two very innovative programs - M.S. in Assistive Technology and Engineering (ATE) and Online M.S. in Assistive Technology Studies and Human Services (ATHS)—that focus not only on the technology itself, but also the direct impact it has on patients and their care providers.

Master of Science in Assistive Technology and Engineering (ATE)

• Great fit for engineers and computer scientists who want to create devices and software that will assist special-needs populations
• Two-year, 33-credit program meets once a week with the occasional Saturday
•Subject areas include product design and development, project management, and robotic applications
• CSUN’s Assistive Technology Engineering master’s program is linked to the CSUN master’s program in Assistive Technology and Human Services. Because these new programs were conceived and developed simultaneously to work synergistically, you – as a student in the Assistive Technology Engineering program – will benefit from an exceptional opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the needs of end-users as well as the wide variety of environments in which assistive technology devices must function.
• Prepares graduates for rewarding careers enhancing the lives of individuals who rely upon assistive technology devices
