Program Description:
The School of Nursing program began in 1981 with the goal of making higher education more accessible to employed registered nurses, thereby improving the quality of health care in California. The Master of Science in Nursing prepares professional nurses for advanced and specialized practice. The curriculum is organized around the role of the nurse in societal institutions with emphasis on the application of nursing theory. Students may elect one of five role emphasis options: nurse educator, nurse administrator, clinical nurse specialist in parent-child nursing, or family nurse practitioner. A new master's entry level (prelicensure) program, based on the Clinical Nurse Leader model, was started in Spring 2007 for non-nurses with BA or BS in another field.
