Program Description:

Chemistry at Caltech emphasizes the design and synthesis of novel and significant molecules of varying shapes, sizes, and complexities; the determination of their three-dimensional structures;systematic explorations of their chemical reactivity; and a theoretical understanding of their chemical bonding and reactivity in terms of fundamental principles. Active programs are directed at the tailored synthesis of materials with novel structural optical, electrical, and magnetic properties, as well as sophisticated organometallic compounds with unique catalytic capabilities.
