Degree Offered
MA in Counseling Psychology
Format: Campus
Program Description:
Somatic psychology is an academic and clinical field that explores the crucial role of the body in human development, interpersonal relationships, psyche, and culture. The Somatic Psychology concentration at CIIS is one of a handful of accredited graduate programs where you can train for this pioneering counseling specialty. Somatic Psychology at CIIS offers an integrative, whole-person model in which you become adept at both verbal and nonverbal approaches to psychotherapy. The program provides you with the clinical skills of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment necessary for your practice as a psychotherapist, within a perspective of holistic integration.
Your courses are combined with practicums at the Institute’s Center for Somatic Psychotherapy, one of the few body-oriented mental health clinics in the country. The coursework meets the requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) or as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
