Program Description:
Designed in a unique and close collaboration with leading mental health providers, this program ensures that graduates are well prepared for present and future challenges in the field. The program meets critical needs:
Professional: Graduates are trained to enter the profession as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) or Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) working in community-based settings. You take courses and practicum that enable you to be effective in public agencies or private practice.
Therapeutic: Graduates are skilled in working with the growing number of clients with co-occurring disorders, who require therapy that is recovery-based and client-centered.
Cultural: The program actively recruits students who are from diverse backgrounds, and who are bilingual or multicultural. Our collaborative learning program welcomes those who have experienced the mental health system, as well as their family members. The curriculum integrates the fundamentals of psychotherapy with an emphasis on cultural competence, the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, skills building in case management, and public sector practice.
