Program Information

Degree Offered

M.A. in Computational Linguistics

Format: Campus

Program Description:

In just 2 years, students in Brandeis' MA in Computational Linguistics program are equipped with the skills to work in cutting-edge technological and linguistic fields, including automated text analysis, speech recognition, information retrieval, Web voice search, machine translation, cryptography and computer security, among others. This dynamic interdisciplinary program draws on the expertise of faculty members and innovative interdisciplinary research in language and linguistic theory (phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics), computer science (artificial intelligence, theory of computation, and programming methods) and philosophy, cognitive science, and psychology.

Program Highlights
• The two-year M.A. in Computational Linguistics creates opportunities for practical tools that can be of tremendous benefit to society, including automated text analysis, speech recognition, information retrieval, Web search, machine translation, cryptography and computer security, among others.
• For-credit internships with local Boston-area companies are available in the second year of study, plus opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research within Brandeis’ computer science and linguistics departments.
• Many computational linguistics students receive partial tuition scholarships that cover approximately half of tuition.
• Individualized curriculum accommodates each student's individual academic background, including students with little or no computer science, as well as computer science students with little or no linguistics background.
• One of only a few computational linguistics programs worldwide.

We encourage you to learn more about our program, located just outside of Boston and its world-renown academic and industry resources -- an ideal location for internships and research opportunities through the Boston Area Graduate Consortium.
