Degree Offered
Ph.D. - Translational Biology & Molecular Medicine
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The inter-departmental Translational Biology & Molecular Medicine Graduate Program is a new complimentary approach to train individuals in translational biology and to promote collaborations between over 120 clinical and basic science faculty. The Ph.D. program aims to develop a new workforce with first hand experience in translational research and leadership training to serve as a catalyst to move discoveries effectively between bench and bedside. Some of the unique aspects of the program include students having two mentors, one basic and one clinical scientist. The courses have been created to teach molecular mechanisms and clinical aspects of human health problems in an integrated fashion. During their second year, students participate in clinical rotations, which provide them with direct knowledge of human health issues. Journal clubs are targeted to in-depth discussions of disease mechanisms. Additionally, the program provides training in ethics, approval process for human health research, grant writing, statistics, and high throughput technologies.
