Degree Offered
M.A.- Writing for Young People
Format: Campus
Program Description:
This course( one year full-time, two years part-time) is for writers for children of all ages, from the picture-book age through to teenage and young adult fiction. It is taught by experienced tutors who are all published writers for young people and has excellent links with the children’s publishing industry. We have a programme of visiting speakers including authors, agents and editors. The course supports students to create a significant body of writing with practical plans for its place in the contemporary publishing world. Prose fiction is likely to be the main area studied, but students have the opportunity to look at other forms such as picture books, poetry and non-fiction. Teaching is mainly by small group workshop and individual tutorials. We have an excellent record of students getting published and winning prizes. Former successful students include Sally Nicholls ( Ways to Live Forever), Gill Lewis ( Skyhawk); C.J. Skuse (Pretty Bad Things ); Jim Carrington (Inside My Head); Marie-Louise Jensen ( Between Two Seas); Elen Caldecott ( How Kirsty Jenkins Stole the Elephant); Alex Diaz (Of all the Stupid Things).
