Program Description:
This programme provides the knowledge and skills that are required to become effective healthcare managers
The programme is flexible and suitable for a wide range of health practitioners, teachers or others with an interest in health studies.
Students gain credits for each module and these are accumulated for a range of awards.
Students can take breaks and return to study in a pattern that suits them best. The programme comprises a total of seven taught modules, each worth 30 credits and a dissertation module, worth 60 credits. Students select two modules for the PGCert, four modules for the PGDip and four modules plus a dissertation for the award of MSc. Typically students choose modules that complement their professional interests.
MSc Health Studies
This is the most flexible route. Research Methods is a compulsory module, and other modules are selected according to personal interest.
MSc Health Studies (Healthcare Management)
This is a specialised route in which students must complete three compulsory modules:
Research Methods;
Leadership and Management;
Policy and Politics of Health.
In addition the focus of the dissertation must be on a management topic. The work-based module offers a further opportunity for independent study linked to workplace issues.
MSc Health Studies (Public Health for Practitioners)
This is a specialised route with three compulsory modules:
Research Methods;
Public Health;
Society and Health.
The focus of the dissertation must be a public health topic.
The modules are:
Research Methods;
Public Health;
Leadership and Management;
Management of Chronic Illness and Disability;
Policy and Politics of Health;
Society and Health;
Work Based Evaluation Module;
Dissertation.
