Program Description:
Barry University's programs in ministry and theology are characterized by a strong intellectual tradition, supportive faculty, and student diversity.
The Doctor of Ministry is a terminal degree that develops advanced theological reflection on ministerial practice for ordained and non-ordained women and men. Courses can be taken at the Miami Shores campus through winter and summer terms, through fall and spring semesters, or in combination through the year. A concentration in Hispanic/Latino Theology and Ministry is available.
The MA in Practical Theology is an advanced degree that provides a foundational theological and ministerial education through the study of practical biblical, systematic, liturgical, and moral theology for ministerial leadership in the Christian Churches. Courses can be taken at the Miami Shores campus through winter and summer terms, through Fall and Spring semesters, or in combination through the year.
The MA in Pastoral Ministry for Hispanics provides focused theological reflection on the cultural contexts and social realities currently challenging ministries to the Spanish-speaking faithful of the Christian Churches. Courses are offered with the Southeast Pastoral Institute (SEPI) in Miami, an educational branch of the Southeast Regional Office for Hispanic Affairs, Region IV and V of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The MA in Pastoral Theology is directed toward the preparation of a well-educated laity who will assume greater responsibility for the teaching and healing mission of the Church. Courses are offered in the Diocese of Venice through the direction of The Blessed Edmund School for Pastoral Ministry in Arcadia, FL.
Clergy members of religious communities (sisters, brothers, etc.) may be eligible for a tuition discount for graduate programs under Barry's Professional Recognition Scholarship Program.
