Program Information
Degree Offered
MS - Master of Science in Psychology; SSP - Specialist in School Psychology
Program Description:
Barry University's Adrian Dominican School of Education in Miami Shores, Florida, offers a school psychology program that emphasizes both research and real-world experience. It is the only program in South Florida to be approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The program accommodates working professionals with an evening class schedule and full-time and part-time options. Students possess a wide range of professional experience, from recent undergraduates to teachers or mental health professionals seeking a career upgrade. Many students earn both a Master of Science in Psychology and a Specialist in School Psychology degree in this program. However, if you already have a master's degree in a related field (such as mental health counseling or special education), a program advisor will work with you to develop a customized course sequence. Because school psychology is an area of critical shortage nationwide, you may be eligible for state-sponsored loan forgiveness programs. In addition, if you are an employee of a Florida school and enroll in this program, you can receive a 30 percent tuition reduction.
Accreditation:
The School Psychology program is approved by the Department of Education of the State of Florida and by the National Association of School Psychologists.
International Student Requirements:
If your university or college degree is from an institution in which English is not the language of instruction, you must submit a score of 550 or better on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or at least 213 on the computer-based TOEFL.
