Program Description:
Bank Street offers three museum education programs for those seeking to work with diverse museum visitors of all ages. Gain a strong foundation in human development, learning theories, school curriculum, and museum policy and practice, with field experiences in museums and schools. The museum component of the program helps you bring the full richness of museum collections, programs, and resources to children in their schools, with their families and within their communities. The museum courses complement the education courses in your program, emphasizing the educational role and mission of museums and schools in a pluralistic society. Visit museums, meet with museum staff, observe museum-school partnerships in action, and develop museum-based projects. Learn about child development and its variations, curriculum development, reading, mathematics, science and the arts. These courses stress a learner-centered, integrated, experiential approach to learning for children of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and ages (elementary through middle school).
