Program Description:
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Educational Studies offers a unique synthesis of courses and academic opportunities in educational technology, curriculum studies, and social foundation areas, including its historic multicultural educational program. It prepares professional educators to address the following social trends that are altering the character and delivery of public education, teacher education, and educational research: 1) Changes in demographics, economics, and politics as they alter the structure and culture of schools and communities; and 2) the increasing role of technology in learning, instructional design, curriculum development, assessment, and pedagogy.The program prepares graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding to: * Assist students, teachers, and policy makers to function in a knowledge society * Implement teaching and learning technologies* Engage in systematic assessment, evaluation, and research* Develop policies for schools and communities that address the learning needs of changing populations
