Program Information

Degree Offered

MA

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The major objective of the Master of Arts in School Counseling is to prepare students for a career as a school counselor. The program is designed to meet Massachusetts Department of Education Initial licensing requirements for School Guidance Counselor (PreK-8 or 5-12). The School Counseling program is designed exclusively for those students who want to pursue a counseling career within a school setting.

Graduate students in the MA in School Counseling program will be prepared through a rigorous course of study in terms of theory and practice to meet the diverse learning and behavioral needs of students in multi-cultural urban and suburban school
settings. We accomplish this with an innovative and integrated curriculum emphasizing a strong counseling component that exceeds state and national standards for school counselors. We are committed to train counselors for lifelong learning and professional development throughout their careers.

Our faculty are licensed school counselors, school psychologists, educational psychologists, rehabilitation counselors, and educators. As a group, they possess extensive experience working in school systems. Each faculty member is skilled at bringing both theory and practical experience into the course content. All faculty are dedicated to providing individual
attention for every graduate candidate. Students in the program learn from each other as much as they learn from their professors. The collaborative learning environment nurtures interaction and teamwork, preparing students to succeed in school systems where being a team player is a critical trait for effectiveness.
