Program Description:

The film industry is a multi-billion dollar business centered on film as a storytelling medium. Our Film & Digital Production program offers a comprehensive course of study preparing you for this exciting industry by helping you develop the creative principles of narrative filmmaking, as well as the culture, discipline, and professional protocols of the business.

Our graduates are prepared to work in entry-level positions such as freelance professionals in the production and postproduction of feature films, shorts, music videos, and commercials, or embark on a career as a well-rounded, independent filmmaker. Your thesis project will serve as a valuable tool to show potential employers and launch your career.

Film is much more than just moviemaking. As a student enrolled in the Film program, you will have the opportunity to write and critique screenplays and shoot, direct, and edit several narrative films in collaboration with your peers and under the guidance of faculty, most of whom have several years of direct experience in the film industry.

The program is hands-on from the start. The digital production aspect of the program focuses on camera operation, lighting, linear and nonlinear editing, compositing and sequencing, and more. Students learn to use pre- and postproduction techniques with industry related software systems In the past, our Film students have worked on feature films such as Bad Boys, Transporter, Pledge This, Miami Vice, and in several commercials and music videos shot on location in Miami.

The MFA program provides the opportunity to design your own unique education geared toward your individual tastes, needs, and ambitions. It will also provide a broad-based education in the field and prepare you to teach or work at various levels. During the first four terms of this program, you will develop a comprehension of all aspects of the narrative-based film industry from writing and production, to exhibition. Prior to graduation, you will have the opportunity to develop and complete a self-designed thesis under the guidelines of our film thesis committee.
