Program Information

Degree Offered

PSM in Nanoscience

Program Description:

Nanoscience is a transdisciplinary subject spanning physics, chemistry and biochemistry, materials and electrical engineering. It concerns the properties of atomic and molecular assemblies (composed of tens, hundreds, or thousands of atoms) under an extraordinarily wide range of conditions and geometries. Nanoscience is a prime target of both federal funding and high-tech industrial investment. It is expected to have profound impact on a broad range of technologies such as nanoelectronics, biosensors and nanomedicine over the coming decade. At Arizona State University, a multidisciplinary approach to research has forged successful efforts between physics, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering and the life sciences. This success is also realized through productive collaboration with our industry partners - bringing global attention to the research efforts in the Valley of the Sun. Nanoscience is, without a doubt, a significant example of interdisciplinary success at ASU. The Professional Science Masters (PSM) degree involves graduates students in nanoscience within this interdisciplinary setting and in a professional environment. The program is intentionally designed to accommodate students - particularly working professionals - wanting to obtain their degree in a fast-track, immersive atmosphere without sacrificing quality. This 30-credit-hour PSM program is described at http://nanoscience.asu.edu/; it is studied on either a 12-month full-time or 24-month part-time basis. Core courses (15 hours) are taken by all students. These include Professional seminar, Nanoscience and Society, and Innovation and IP Management. A 6 credit-hour applied project is presented at the final capstone presentation. Three major options span: Nano-materials and Nano-electronics; Biophysics and Bio-nanotechnology; Biophysics, Biochemistry and Sensors.

Accreditation:

This degree program is a member of the national PSM organization

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must submit an official ASU online graduate application, official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work, a statement of purpose, and two letters of recommendation from professional individuals familiar with the applicant’s work and/or studies.
