Program Information

Degree Offered

Computational Biosciences (PSM)

Program Description:

Traditional Sciences Masters degree at ASU
Masters of Science degrees, which are 30-hour programs, are offered in the sciences in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Physics and Statistics. Several of the associated departments also participate in the interdisciplinary degree program, the Master of Natural Sciences, M.N.S., which is a 36-hour degree program of which 12 hours must be coordinated graduate study in a department outside the home department.

The CBS degree program, on the other hand, is a 42-hour degree program.

It is distinguished from traditional programs through not only the increased credit hour requirement, but also all the following components:

Students complete a minimum of 6 hours of professional courses offered by the W.P. Carey School of Business through the School of Health Administration and Policy.
It is a cross-disciplinary program administered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with an even broader internal advisory committee, which has faculty members from the School of Life Sciences, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science Engineering, Physics and Astronomy and the School of Health Administration Policy. Students are required to take core graduate level courses in mathematics, statistics, molecular biology and computer science.
Prerequisites for admission to the degree program are stringent and include that students have undergraduate courses beyond the sophomore level in mathematics, computer science, life sciences and biochemistry.
Student must complete a professional internship and write a technical report on their project. The technical project is also presented to all students of the program.
Students complete several team projects and learn communication and presentation skills for crossing the related disciplines.
