Program Description:

The Master of Arts Degree in Political Science is designed to prepare persons for careers in a variety of public and private settings, and to prepare students for further graduate work at the doctoral level. In today’s expanding economy many individuals find it beneficial, or even necessary, to obtain an advanced degree in order to achieve career goals.

The American government concentration promotes student understanding of the institutions of American Politics and the behavior of the public and political actors.

The Environmental Politics and Policy Analysis concentration promotes a multidisciplinary curriculum and provides students with the hard skills necessary for conducting analyses of environmental policy issues.

The International Relations/Comparative Politics concentration promotes student understanding of world politics and U.S. interactions with other nations.

The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice is committed to giving its MA students the academic training that will allow them to pursue a wide range of opportunities.

Program Highlights
You are required to complete 30 credit hours with thesis or 36 credit hours without a thesis.

Occasionally this has been accomplished in an academic year, but you can expect to complete the program in 1 ½ to 2 years by attending full-time.

Internships: The department regularly places students in a variety of internships and will make every effort to help you obtain an internship that will provide you with practical experience suitable for your individual aspirations.

Eligibility Requirements:

Meeting or exceeding the conditions below does NOT guarantee admission. All applications for a given entry term will be weighed based upon the number of seats available and the quality of the complete application packages. With special permission from the Graduate School, a program may admit a limited number of students with exceptional circumstances who do not meet the graduate school minimums.

Graduate School: 3.0 GPA in the last earned degree and official scores from the appropriate admission test(s), OR 2.5 GPA in the last earned degree and official scores at the 25th percentile level from the appropriate admission test(s).

Admission to Political Science: Both qualitative and quantitative aspects of applications are reviewed in comparison to the current applicant pool
