At Alvernia students can pursue a Secondary (Grades 7-12) Teaching Certification independently or in combination with the program in Urban Leadership leading to a Master of Education degree.

Program Description:
The Secondary (Grades 7-12) Teaching Certification program is dedicated to providing instruction in educational theory balanced with current classroom practices. The program focuses on a value-centered approach toward the preparation of caring, uniquely-qualified candidates to address the needs of diverse populations in today's schools.
The Secondary (Grades 7-12) Teaching Certification curriculum prepares students to teach grades seventh through twelfth. Secondary Education students select a concentration for certification from the following disciplines: Biology, Business, Computer and Information Technology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies.

The Secondary (Grades 7-12) Teaching Certification is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Eligibility Requirements:
For consideration for acceptance applicants must submit the following: Completed application form accompanied by a non-refundable $50 application fee, Personal Statement, Official college/institution transcripts, Three letters of recommendation (not required for Principal Certification unless applying for the M.Ed. program with Principal Certification), Passing Praxis Scores (Appropriate Praxis Exams are required for Certification applicants.), and Academic or professional awards (not required, but encouraged).
