Program Description:

School nurses play a significant role in promoting health and wellness among the student population of a school. Their role includes teaching students about health and safety, assist students and their families to understand the connection between health and learning, and dealing with health and injury problems that take place in the school.

Alvernia University's School Nurse Certification - Post Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program fully integrates national standards of the Standards of Professional School Nurse Practice and Standards of Professional School Nurse Practice: Applications in the Field. The curriculum is designed so that students can demonstrate knowledge and professional skills for providing health care needs to children and youth in grades K through 12.

Accreditation:

Post Bachelor of Science in Nursing School Nurse Certification programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. State certification is required in Pennsylvania to work as a certified school nurse in the public school system. Many private and parochial institutions also require their nurses to possess the appropriate state certification. For consideration for acceptance, applicants mush submit the following: Completed application form accompanied by a non- refundable $50 application fee, Official college/institution transcripts, Three letters of recommendation (Required for M.Ed Applicants only), Scores from a nationally standardized examination (Required for M.Ed. Applicants only), Personal Statement (Required for M.Ed. Applicants only), Interview with nursing faculty member, Photocopy of RN License, and Academic or professional awards (not required, but encouraged).
