At Alvernia students may pursue an Early Childhood (Grades Pre K-4) Teaching Certification independently or in combination with the program in Urban Leadership leading to a Master of Education degree. This program allows students to pursue their Master of Education while getting their Early Childhood (Grades Pre K-4) Teaching Certification at the same time.

Program Description:
The Early Childhood (Grades Pre K-4) Teaching Certification program is dedicated to providing instruction in educational theory balanced with current classroom practices. The program focuses on a value-centered approach toward the preparation of caring, uniquely-qualified candidates to address the needs of diverse populations in today's schools. The Early Childhood (Grades Pre K-4) Teaching Certification curriculum prepares students to teach grades kindergarten through fourth.

Eligibility Requirements:
For consideration for acceptance applicants must submit the following: Completed application form accompanied by a non-refundable $50 application fee, Personal Statement, Official college/institution transcripts, Three letters of recommendation (not required for Principal Certification unless applying for the M.Ed. program with Principal Certification), Passing Praxis Scores (Appropriate Praxis Exams are required for Certification applicants.), and Academic or professional awards (not required, but encouraged).
