Program Description:

Peace, Diplomacy and International Relations provides essential cross-disciplinary studies in diplomacy, international relations, peace, human rights, international political studies, international legal studies, anti-terrorism studies, cultural philosophy, cultural history, political thought, world cultural history, diversity studies, and applied ethics.
The program provides insight into the various cultural and social changes which humankind has encountered throughout their history. It provides insights into the various past failures and achievements of civilization and prepares professionals to champion greater heights of social, cultural, and emotional growth. The program also provides insight into ways to avoid future mistakes in international affairs; and provides ways whereby professionals can integrate social, political, and economic factors to further the human condition.

The program is also provides insight into the political and legal issues relative to intergovernmental and global business and provides insight into ways to improve cooperation and vital effectiveness across the international community. Professionals impacted by international political and legal issues will find this program exceedingly effective.

Degree Requirements
Participants in the Master of Science program in Peace, Diplomacy and International Studies
complete a minimum of 40 credits above the baccalaureate degree, including a thesis and final
review. The coursework requirements include the academic major, academic minor and research
preparation coursework, and additional electives, as needed, to satisfy the minimum credit
requirements. Participants also complete a comprehensive examination at the conclusion of the
academic coursework, prepare a formal thesis proposal, complete the thesis project, and prepare
the manuscript for faculty review. They then complete an oral review of thesis at the conclusion
of the research review.

Akamai is internationally accredited by the International Distance Education Accreditation League (IDEAL), a member of the National Network of Quality Assurance Agencies (NNQAA), a recognized network of accrediting bodies in the Philippines. IDEAL is a full institutional member of the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), an important agency recognized by UNESCO as a regional leader in the developing and serving the needs of quality assurance agencies in higher education. The Commission on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in USA lists APQN as a quality network of accrediting agencies with full validity in accrediting institutions of higher education across the Asia and Pacific Region.

Eligibility Requirements:

Master of Science participants should have completed the equivalent of a recognized Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of study and have several years of meaningful and increasingly responsible experience in NGO and nonprofit management, international development agencies, international social and economic recovery programs, anti-poverty programs, public administration, and community programs from business and industry.

Doctor of Philosophy participants should have completed the equivalent of a recognized graduate degree in an appropriate field of study and have several years of meaningful professional experience and research background.

Participants at all degree levels are expected to be proficient in English language skills or provide other assurances of effective guidance and language support throughout the program. Participants must have access to a computer, appropriate software, email and Internet, and academic library resources.

International Student Requirements:

Akamai University is an English language university. All submissions and communications, written or verbal, from students to the faculty or the administration of the University should be in the English language and of scholarly standard. This policy applies to course papers, project reports and other course submissions, student portfolios, comprehensive examinations, final projects, and oral reviews. Applicants must clearly demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English language communication skills according to American collegiate standards. A sample of scholarly or professional writing and a telephone communication with a member of the Akamai University faculty are both required elements of the admission process. International students with English as a second language or if prior college study was with non-English language colleges, applicants are required to submit a record of a recent TOEFL examination with acceptable skill levels.
