The Master of Social Work will prepare you for advanced social work practice with individuals, families, couples and groups. Building on a generalist social work foundation, this 64-credit program combines academic courses with supervised field instruction. Students apply social work theories to professional practice and integrate the knowledge, values and skills of the social work profession.
The M.S.W. is offered at the Garden City campus and at Adelphi’s centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge and Hudson Valley. We also offer flexible scheduling options, including:
—Spring Start 16-Month
—Spring Start Part Time
—One-Year Residency (OYR)
The Ph.D. in Social Work offers a tightly structured and integrated curriculum that prepares experienced social workers for leadership in the profession as scholars, educators, researchers and service providers. Students learn to think critically; evaluate a broad spectrum of clinical, administrative and policy interventions; use extant knowledge creatively; and become scholar-practitioners, educators, researchers and leaders in the field.
The program meets the needs of working professionals, offering full- or part-time study. Classes are offered once a week during the late afternoon and early evening. The program requires successful completion of 51 doctoral-level credits beyond the master’s degree; a comprehensive candidacy examination; and a research-based dissertation that displays scholarship, creativity and methodological rigor that contributes to the knowledge base of social work.
