Master of Arts in English

Program Description:

The Master of Arts in English is a professional degree that prepares students to continue their education in a doctoral program or in a law school, as well as to enter a wide range of language-related professions. With an ability to communicate well in written English, the possibilities for employment are broad and diverse.

An M.A. in English prepares students for a wide range of possible career opportunities. In one-on-one mentoring with faculty, students are trained in critical methodology, research, professional writing, publication, tutoring and teaching. The program’s incorporation of critical theory prepares students to stand on their own in their fields or in doctoral programs

Why the Master of Arts in English at ACU?

ACU's M.A. in English program is one of the only programs in the state of Texas that actively incorporates a master’s degree in English with faith-based practices. The diverse faculty, which includes award-winning scholars, is eager to challenge students to address current rhetorical and literary theory through an advanced, forward-thinking curriculum while maintaining an atmosphere hospitable to people of faith. Students also have opportunities to train as tutors in the Writing Center in order to advance to the classroom and begin teaching undergraduate English courses.
