Program Information

Degree Offered

MAcc - Master of Accountancy

Format: Campus

Program Description:

ACU's Master of Accountancy program prepares graduates for careers that begin in public accounting. Most students intend to become Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and the Master of Accountancy is the best pathway to sit for the CPA exam.

Why a Master of Accountancy?

To become a CPA in the United States, candidates must sit for and pass the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination. In Texas and 44 additional states, students are required to have 150 hours of study before sitting for the CPA exam. A Master of Accountancy degree enables you to reach the 150-hour threshold, better prepares you as a professional and for the CPA, and equips you with a master’s degree while doing so. Additionally, residents of the state of Texas who are not CPAs are prohibited from holding the titles of accountant or auditor.

While some jobs in accounting are available for individuals with only a bachelor's degree, persons with a master's degree are more likely to advance in the workplace, increasing responsibility and salary.

Why a Master of Accountancy at ACU?

• Ninety-eight percent of students graduate from ACU’s program having already secured employment in accounting firms nationwide.

• Graduates of ACU's Master of Accountancy program have an excellent pass rate on the CPA exam on their first attempt.

• Students are required to take courses from outside the College of Business Administration, creating more
well-rounded graduates.

Degree Process

The M.Acc. degree is a 30-hour program that can be completed in one year by students with an undergraduate degree in accounting. Students with other business degrees, and students without business degrees, could expect to complete the program in two to three years.
