About the field of General Psychology: General psychology programs provide students with a fundamental, well-rounded knowledge of psychology, and they promote a higher level of self-understanding. Students of general psychology will take basic courses in cognitive, developmental and social psychology. They will understand reading and perceptual and cognitive processing, as well as group interaction, social interaction and research design. Coursework will explore human personality, psychodynamics and psychoanalytic theory. Through their study of general psychology, graduate students will sharpen their communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Graduates can go on to careers as psychologists, general psychology professors, market researchers, research consultants and more.
