Graduate School Programs - Master's, Ph.D.
Art therapists use the creative arts-and, in particular, the visual arts-to help improve the psychological, emotional, and physical health of their patients. Art therapy as a field has developed and gained in popularity as it has become increasingly apparent that patients suffering from a variety of ills-ranging from physical injuries resulting from accidents to emotional and psychological problems brought on by mental illness-often respond quite positively to art therapy's focus on personal expression. Art therapists work in a range of environments, from in-patient
psychological
institutions to schools, and a Master's degree in art therapy or a related field is required.
