For nearly 40 years GW’s Masters of Tourism Administration (MTA) Program has been producing the industry’s next great leaders in sport, event, tourism, and hospitality. Students interact with peers and instructors from all over the world within a rich learning environment that combines practical experiences with cutting-edge education.
The MTA program equips students for management positions in tourism, hospitality, sport and event and meeting management. Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, serves as a vast classroom with immense opportunities for practical experience, professional networking, and career development.
Students can concentrate in one of four areas, or take cross-concentration courses to develop their own tourism expertise:
Hospitality Management combines the study and practice of successfully achieving organizational goals within businesses such as hotels, restaurants, attractions, tour companies, airlines, and other travel-related service providers. The hospitality industry is widely considered to be the core of the enormous travel and tourism sector. Our Hospitality Management program provides students with in-depth knowledge of international hospitality development, management and marketing. The program focuses on key aspects of the hospitality industry including operations, marketing, customer service, human resources, feasibility analysis, and hospitality sales.
The highly ranked GW Sports Management program is designed to develop leaders and entrepreneurs to facilitate the continued growth of the $500 billion global sports industry. Students gain knowledge of key issues and aspects of the industry from leading sport professionals and through hands-on experiences. The sport management program prepares students through practical assignments to manage and market athletes, sports media, facilities, events, and products utilizing the latest analytical tools and strategies.
GWs program in Event and Meeting Management is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the exciting field of events in the MEEC (Meetings, Expositions, Events, and Conventions) industry. The MEEC industry is one of the fastest growing segments within the tourism industry and generates millions in revenues for cities and countries. In particular, the special event industry is a viable and growing industry and is an important part of the world’s economy, increasing revenue and jobs worldwide. Our program explores and teaches students the best practices in event planning including; promotion, organization, coordination, evaluation and risk management.
Sustainable Tourism Management:
A program designed for tourism destination managers, marketers, developers, business owners and planners who want to accelerate their careers in the tourism industry. This program focuses on essential tools for developing visitor markets and minimizing the negative effects of tourism leading to success within destinations and long-term sustainability. Sustainable Tourism Destination Management focuses on the comparative advantage and competitive positioning of tourist destinations enhanced by their commitment to sustainable development principles and practices.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance offers financial aid in the form of Federal Stafford Loans and alternative loans to graduate students seeking to finance their graduate educations.
