The Film School for Independent Filmmakers. The MFA in Film degree at Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) joins a distinguished portfolio of fine arts graduate programs at this national center for graduate arts education. With its highly regarded faculty and smart, engaged students, VCFA balances its historic strengths with an inspiring trajectory to establish new standards for graduate education in the twenty-first century. The MFA in Film is uniquely designed for independent filmmakers and screenwriters, who wish to refine their craft, develop a body of work, explore new approaches and technologies, and build professional relationships through an individualized curriculum.
A different approach to graduate education. Unlike traditional residential models, our low-residency format brings faculty and students together for week-long, on-campus residencies in Montpelier, Vermont. These intensive residencies feature workshops, presentations, screenings and collaborations. When not in residency and throughout two years and four semesters of study, our faculty of highly accomplished filmmakers and screenwriters provide one-on-one guidance as students create work in their home communities. Students always take an active role in shaping their own curriculum while participating in a sustained dialogue with experienced filmmakers of national reputation.
At VCFA, fruitful learning is year-round.
