Master of Education in Literacy (Teaching of Writing)
Combining online courses in the academic year with on-campus summer institutes and seminars in Orono, participants will complete a Master of Education in Literacy (Individualized) with a Concentration in Writing and the Teaching of Writing. Interested educators who already hold a master’s degree in literacy or a related field, and do not want a second master’s degree, may choose a Certificate in Advanced Studies (CAS).
Coursework for this program can include the Northeast Writing Institute, the Maine Writing Project Summer Institute, the MWP Literacy Institute, as well as seminars in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and editing & the editor. Online courses with supportive MWP instructors will include courses such as Digital Writing and Writing in Schools and Colleges. While this program does require use of a computer, a student does not have to be a technological wizard to participate. In addition, we know you’ll learn from and enjoy the relationships established in our online classrooms.
Most participants will be able to complete this advanced degree in two years; some may complete the program earlier, depending on course-load and academic history.
