Objective is to offer graduate programs in major areas of study and research including hydrogeology, geochemistry, geomorphology, igneous petrology and metamorphic petrology, mineralogy, paleontology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, structural geology, tectonics, glacial geology,paleoceanography-paleoclimatology, and clay mineralogy. The Department has a strong tradition of emphasis on field studies as the basis of geological instruction and research; field research is being carried out in many parts of the world. In addition to field research, there are modern laboratories to conduct research in high pressure-high temperature experimental petrology andmineralogy and in other areas of specialty.
