This full-time graduate program provides an in-depth study of modern and contemporary art and its markets, exploring their evolution from the mid-19th century to the present day. It is designed for students with backgrounds in both art history and those with first degrees in other fields who wish to gain access to the art world. Led by an expert faculty, the program combines art history, art market history, knowledge of current art business practices, and the development of connoisseurship skills through object-based learning. Our exclusive access to the auction house and a wide range of art professionals provides students with first-hand knowledge of the workings of the art world and the transferable skills they need to become art world professionals. All students in this program participate in exhibition visits. A field study trip to a major international location such as Berlin, Paris, or London is a key element of this program that keeps pace with the fast-moving art worldAn intensive program, it takes only 15 months to complete and concludes with the writing of a Master’s thesis and a mandatory 45-day internship to help students launch their professional careers Program Outcomes Students will: • Learn to identify, describe, interpret, and assess works of art • Become familiar with current research resources for art history and art business • Learn to read critically and assess texts to identify an author’s argument and formulate their own position in relation to it • Acquire knowledge of the auction house • Learn about the structure of the art world and the interplay between the commercial and nonprofit sectors • Develop transferable professional skills • Gain art business and art market knowledge
