The Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security Management is oriented toward the needs of professionals in public safety and related fields. Because of the nature of the field, this program is open to national security, safety, law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel who are currently involved in areas related to crisis management and domestic security, as well as to those who wish to make Homeland Security their career. The Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security Management consists of 12 credits in an accelerated cohort format.
The curriculum of the Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security will provide students with the knowledge and skills to:
Develop strategies, plans and programs to manage emergency situations such as hurricanes and other natural disasters, epidemics, and potential terrorist attacks;
Build an organizational matrix that includes federal, state and local agencies to strengthen Homeland Security;
Guide decision-makers in making improvement in Homeland Security preparedness;
Develop the strong organizational and management skills needed to function and lead in a complex, multi-agency government department; and
Develop the problem solving skills needed to overcome the challenges of multi-agency functions such as communications, command and task accomplishment.
