The University of New Haven's Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences is one of the largest and most academically diverse colleges of Criminal Justice in the United States. Founded in the late 1950's as one of the first ten academic programs in Criminal Justice in the United States the college now supports nearly 2,000 students in specialized programs in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Fire Science, National Security, Legal Studies and Emergency Management. Doctoral study in the Henry C. Lee College takes full advantage of the depth and breadth of the research and scholarly opportunities associated with the broad range of interdisciplinary programs, faculty and research centers within the college.
The UNH Criminal Justice Ph.D. program is designed to be a small, selective program to enable every student to receive the individualized instruction and mentoring necessary in doctoral education. Strong relationships with a broad range of public and private organizations afford graduate students significant opportunities to develop data sources and research opportunities. Currently, more than $2 million in contract and grant funding for research and contract services within the college provides graduate students with opportunities for research experience and external funding.
The Ph.D. program includes both full-time and part-time options to allow students to tailor the program to meet their individual needs. Students have the opportunity to select specialized areas of study within criminal justice, including areas such as investigative science, law enforcement, and criminal behavior. The program includes traditional classroom-based courses, online courses, and hybrid courses (courses that include both online and classroom instruction).
The university is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.
