Fashion' in its essence embraces a huge array of products and services, targeted at all ages, ethnic backgrounds and ‘pockets'. With such an array of applications and target consumers, this programme is designed to embrace the ideas of students from a broad range of cultures and design backgrounds. It will encourage and nurture your vision and creativity through experimentation with distinctive and challenging forms and ideas of Fashion Design. This pathway provides you with the opportunity to extend your knowledge and understanding of fashion design through the formulation and realisation of an individually negotiated project. You will underpin your design progress through research, consumer vision and creative practice. As your thinking and skills grow, you will be encouraged to critically evaluate your working processes, methodologies and ideas. This critical evaluation will help you to develop and sustain your design objectives. A series of core units will challenge you to address contemporary issues and technologies relevant to your practice. We will constantly encourage you to work across traditional and experimental boundaries in order to test your ideas and challenge your thinking. You will also be encouraged to develop a range of practical and transferable skills to support your study and enhance your employability within the world of Fashion Design. Project tutors and visiting professionals will supplement your learning experiences and promote critical thinking and self-learning skills within a research-led environment. This programme is one of the MA Design pathways which require you to present a portfolio of work. You will be able to develop your thinking and skills in the following areas: research skills for fashion, experimental practice, construction techniques and materials, product development, CAD for Fashion, capsule collections, fashion portfolio skills, fashion marketing.
