Graduate recruits with entrepreneurial skills are an asset to any company, established or start-up, because they will be able to spot gaps in the market and innovate. Given the impact of technology and globalisation, markets are changing more rapidly than ever before and thus companies are seeking to employ individuals who are capable of spotting opportunities and making the most of them.
While start-ups showcase entrepreneurship and innovation in its most obvious sense, these behaviours are also key to existing organisations where the effective use of resources to support different forms of innovation (product, service, process and management) helps drive growth and performance. This MSc looks to prepare business and non-business graduates for a wide spectrum of career opportunities including managing innovation within existing organisations, developing start-up business, taking over a family business or policy and business development roles in agencies supporting innovation.
Over the past five years the University of Edinburgh has supported the formation of over 180 businesses. Entrepreneurial skills are highly valued and the University seeks to foster development of these skills amongst students not only through the provision of an MSc specifically dedicated to Entrepreneurship and Innovation but also through other resources too. The Edinburgh Entrepreneurship Club (aka the E-Club), for example, is one additional avenue where students have the opportunity to learn, share and develop. The E-Club is hosted at the Business School and is a consortium of students, alumni, researchers, faculty and staff from across the university, and colleagues from the wider community who share a common goal of fostering the entrepreneurial spirit.
Throughout the year we hold a number of webinars for potential students. On the 11th November 2015 we will be holding a specific webinar on the Entrepreneurship and Innovation MSc.
This is a chance for those interested in the programme to ask the Programme Director any questions you may have.
