The Professional Leadership programme is based in the Faculty of Health, Education and Society with input from Plymouth Business School. The programme offers a range of awards. You can choose to undertake a single module as part of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or you can work towards a range of aggregating awards – Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters of Science. There are four core modules (the enquiring leader, developing self and others, contemporary issues in leadership and leadership in action) within the programme, research methods; preparation and planning and the dissertation are core modules for those wishing to complete to masters level. There are a number of option modules, these will become available where there is demand.
The programme has been specifically developed to attract those who find themselves in leadership roles within the professional caring sector; health education, social care and the third sector. Reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary world of working in these sectors; creating a space for interprofessional dialogue is a key feature of this programme.
The proposed programme will offer exit awards of Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or masters degree in Professional Leadership.
The full-time route will normally take one year and the part-time route will normally take two years, although there is some flexibility as long as it is completed within a 5 year period. Students are also welcome to take any of the modules as stand-alone CPD courses. Transferring CPD learning to masters credits and completing a dissertation will be dependent on the currency of their study and will be assessed through an interview process. Students will have 5 years to complete their masters from the date of registration to the full masters programme.
