The Department has all the usual databases and software for research. Research students are strongly encouraged to work closely with their supervisors and give papers both within and outside the Department. The programme integrates a set of lectures, with the aim of developing the analytical and technical ability of students. A new PhD option available in 2001-2 will involve a wider range of inter-disciplinary coursework offering the opportunity to broaden research skills.
