The Michener Institute's program focuses on preparing students for research technician positions in the biotechnology industry. Not only will students learn about hot research areas in biotechnology and gain valuable hands-on experience in current research techniques, there is a strong focus on business and biotech industry-related issues. The educational emphasis is on problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and professional and ethical behaviour. The co-op and independent lab research project placements provide an additional opportunity to develop these skills as well as to gain valuable research experience "in the field". It is a post-diploma program. With the exception of the practice lab sessions and the research placements, the coursework is offered on a part-time basis and through the Internet.
