Grad.-Complementary Studies in Linguistics and Literature : Germanic Languages
Admittance to the Complementary Study Programme Language and Literature: Germanic Languages is restricted to graduates ("licentiaat") of the Study Programme Language and Literature: Germanic Languages. It acquaints students with the scientific study of a third Germanic language, and trains them in the practical command of that language. Its key objective is to enable students to acquire a thorough scientific insight into both the language system and the various manifestations of the chosen language on the one hand, and the specific characteristics of literary texts and the historical functioning of literature in the chosen language on the other hand. By the end of their studies, students should have developed a strong feeling for language; they should be able to apply different analytical methods critically to the study of language and texts, and to do so in a broad historical, social, cultural, and philosophical context.
