The program is taken over one year on a part-time basis. It is an externally run program conducted at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. Candidates attend a program of lectures and grand rounds (approximately four and one-half hours per week). This degree is likely to appeal to doctors interested in a career in general practice or who are in the early stages of training for a specialty career in paediatrics. The Graduate Diploma is awarded after satisfying the examiners in written and clinical examinations at the end of the program. It must be noted that the Graduate Diploma of Paediatrics is intended for postgraduates who have medical degrees registrable in Australia and who are able to secure a paediatric appointment, salaried or otherwise, in a teaching hospital recognised by the University of New South Wales.
