By the proper selection of electives, a degree candidate may train for work as a systems analyst for a management consulting firm, a statistician for a drug corporation, an operations research analyst, a high school teacher, a two-year college teacher, a candidate for a doctoral program in mathematics, an actuary for an insurance company or for a number of other careers in mathematics. A sample degree program indicating a possible selection of electives related to particular areas of mathematics can be obtained from the mathematical sciences department.
This advanced certificate is designed for engineers, scientists, and similar professionals who want a sound education in statistical methods but who wish to finish a program in a shorter time period than that for the MS degree in applied statistics.
The Department of Statistics offers a Ph.D. in statistics and a master's degree in applied statistics. The program is flexible enough to be individually planned around prior experience and in accord with professional goals.
