Consulting - Operations and Supply Chain Management

Operations and supply chain consultants, like other consultants, should get a bachelor's degree in economics, finance, marketing, business administration, statistics, or math. Many large consulting firms like Accenture or Booz require a MBA or economics related graduate degree. Consultants must also have experience with financial analysis and modeling software programs to produce complex spreadsheets involving statistical supply and demand formulas. Online sources show supply chain and operations consultants on average pulling in around $80,000 to $90,000 a year.

In this depressed economic climate of 2009, there is a silver lining operations and supply chain consultants will likely to be higher demand as companies seek to maximize their efficiency and reduce costs. And the operations consultants that can get their clients out of the red will be seeing a lot of green. According to Consulting magazine, sectors like health care that had been less receptive to cost reduction/operations improvement services are now reconsidering in light of this tighter economy. Another facet of operations consulting that will be sought after will be new product development and marketing, as companies try to differentiate themselves from their rivals in this competitive environment.
