Established in 1779 at the request of Thomas Jefferson, William & Mary Law School is the nation's oldest law school. Located in beautiful and charming Williamsburg, Virginia, William & Mary combines wonderful historic roots, a strong national reputation, and a wealth of programs for a very competitive price. The Law School is concerned for students' intellectual development as well as developing character and values as constructive citizens who will do their part in society. With an enrollment of approximately 635 students, the Law School is small enough for people to know one another by name and large enough to form a critical mass for learning and scholarship. The Law School offers three full-time degree programs: the J.D. program, the LL.M. program, and three joint degree programs. William & Mary is located a few blocks from Colonial Williamsburg and within short driving distance of Washington, DC; Richmond; and Norfolk. Visits are encouraged.
