Master's
M.S. - School Counseling
On Campus

The M.S. in School Counseling can lead to a career as a counselor in a school setting. A primary goal of the program is to help future counselors learn to work and communicate with America’s many diverse groups and individuals with respect for their abilities, race, sex, age, region and cultural heritage. The counseling process aids youth in discovering, appreciating and actualizing their unique selves in their relationship with others. School counselors assist students in that process through individual counseling and educational planning sessions, small group activities and classroom guidance. School counselors also work with families, teachers, administrators and community members in consultative and collaborative relationships. They serve as advocates for individual students and work to promote positive learning environments for all. School counselors need strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. A master’s degree is required to become a school counselor.
